What is the capsule made out of?Capsules are made of either Gelatin or vegan capsule? If you have a preference please let me know. There are two methods of which I am able to prepare your placenta for encapsulation: Traditional Method - Placenta is drained of blood, steamed with myrrh and ginger in the water. Once steamed, the placenta is thinly sliced, dehydrated and ground for encapsulation. Raw - Placenta is drained of blood, sliced thinly, then dehydrated, and ground for encapsulation.

What are the benefits of consuming it?Hormonal Balance: It is believed that consuming placenta capsules can help balance postpartum hormones, reducing mood swings and symptoms of postpartum depression. Increased Energy: Some women report feeling more energetic after taking placenta capsules, possibly due to the nutrients and hormones present in the placenta. Improved Lactation: Anecdotal evidence suggests that placenta encapsulation may help with milk production, supporting breastfeeding efforts. Iron Supplementation: The placenta is rich in iron, which can help replenish iron stores depleted during childbirth and reduce the risk of postpartum anemia. Uterine Recovery: Consuming the placenta might aid in the recovery of the uterus, helping it to contract back to its pre-pregnancy size more quickly.

How will your placenta and pills be transported?Whether birthing at home or in a hospital, please ensure your placenta is kept fresh. It can remain in a cooler with ice for 3-4 hours following the birth. After that it should be refrigerated or otherwise kept cool. If you are practicing some form of delayed cord cutting or lotus birth, ice packs may be wrapped up with the placenta to prevent spoilage. If, for some reason, it is going to be more than 3 or 4 days before the placenta can be prepared, it should be frozen. A frozen placenta will take somewhat longer to prepare since I prefer to gently defrost it prior to preparation. *** It is my goal to begin processing your placenta within 24 hours of the birth of your baby! ***

Are there any restrictions? It is important to note that there may be circumstances under which your placenta cannot be used. Significant abnormalities of the placenta may necessitate your doctor or midwife sending your placenta to Pathology for further examination. Other conditions, such as signs of infection in the mother during labor, may mean that consuming your placenta will not be beneficial to you. If in doubt, I will consult with you before proceeding. It should be possible to claim your placenta after Cesarean surgery. Please let me know if you have any health conditions which may affect the health of your placenta or the health and safety of anyone who may come in contact with your placenta. If you are taking any medications regularly, other than prenatal vitamins, please detail them on the last page.

Are there any side effects of taking placenta pills?Placenta encapsulation has been happening for hundreds of years. However, very few studies have been done on the benefits. While the few studies that have been done had limited results, it's difficult to prove or disprove anything at this time. What I can say is the following: There have been very few reports of negative outcomes. So while we may have difficulty proving the benefits on paper, the results that people express seem to outweigh any few negative reports. Also, each placenta is so different and each person will respond differently to their individual placenta that I believe it will be quite some time before we can scientifically break down specifics of the benefits in numbers. Postpartum can bring on lots of hormonal changes that can cause many different symptoms. My suggestion is to stop taking the capsules immediately. If symptoms are potentially life threatening or very concerning, call your provider or 9-1-1. After a few days of not taking capsules, if your symptoms have not subsided, it's very likely that the capsules were not the cause and you should follow up with your provider. If your symptoms have resolved, you may consider resuming your capsules to see if the symptoms return. If they do, it may be best to consider if placenta consumption is right for you. Depending on symptoms you may decide to scale back your intake to ingest a smaller amount of capsules, or cease taking them completely.
